Afghan society is complicated. But the people, themselves, are a very simple, pious, religious and industrious people. They work harder than any American I have ever seen! And they do more, with less resources, than any American I have ever seen. They have to scratch a living, every single day, out of the fabric of human existance. They have the same desires, hopes, dreams, and aspirations as everyone else in the world. They struggle, every single day, for their daily bread. And all they seek is to have a proper place, in a free society, to worship their God as they see fit, and to live in peace. As a whole, they are not extremists. I came away, after my stay there, with a new found respect for those who have less, and who work with less, than we do here, in the U.S. I truly do admire them as a people. And I respect their labors. They are a society different from ours, in their outlook on life, in their dedication to their higher being, and in the way in which they carry on their daily lives. But they are a people who value what is good in all of humanity. They value their families. They value their children. They value the sanctity of human life! And their hopes for the future are the same as ours.
